I got a new connection with Vonage last month and received the Vonage V-Portal adapter with 1 port router.
My Vonage phone adapter is directly connected to my DSL modem. I don't use a wireless router because I don't need one.
Things were great for the first few days, call quality was amazing. Since yesterday I have been having some issues with the call quality.
When I dial my Vonage number from my cell phone, whoever picks up the call at my house can hear me absolutely clearly. But I don't hear them clearly. Their voice is kind of robotic & cracking.
Any suggestions how to solve this problem ? |

Check your internet connection with the Voip speed test under "Vonage Information" in the upper right. This helps to point if the problem is an ISP problem. |

The V Portal is junk. Vonage knows this & will do nothing. The only answer I have gotten on my problem is that I should kepp buying V Portals until I find one that works. So much for saving money with Vonage. |

Well the connection speed is fine.
I rebooted my DSL modem and then the call quality was back to normal again .... for a few hours.
After that it was back to the crackling / metallic sound mode.
I have no idea what is going on. Should I reboot my DSL modem every time I use Vonage ?
I tried playing around with the bandwidth saver settings. No help !! Right now it is at 50 kbps |

You shouldn't have to reboot your modem every time you need to use your phone. If rebooting your modem seems to correct things but only temporarily, it may be the modem that's causing the problem. Remove your Vonage adapter from your network and connect your dsl modem directly to your computer and run the Voip test from this site and post your results. There are other factors beyond your download and upload speed that can affect your success with Voip. |

Pardon me for being an idiot. I should have given this information earlier.
The Vonage V-portal adaptel is in India connected to a BSNL Broadband modem.
I am not a techie, but I do understand some basic terminologies. By any chance is this an issue of IP conflict ? |

If you're able to get online, I wouldn't see it being an IP issue. |
