I'd wonder if your not seeing the effects of Comcast routing problems others in the NE have seen., as this thread demonstrates:
http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic345.html
No clue how to pinpoint if thats it or how to get it fixed if you could. I kind of wonder what Pingplotter would show with no call & with a call.

I can get those results for everyone later today. For those that want to use it also, there is a 30 day full eval at:

I believe the Voice QoS setting on the RT31P2 isn't for the amount of bandwidth you want to RESERVE, it's the amount of bandwidth you HAVE. So, if you've got a 256k upload speed, you should put 256 in the box.

it's my understanding that it's how much will be reserved while on a call. (basically the opposite of what paul is saying) a lot of the problem here is the QoS, esp with the RT31P2 is a very vague topic. it's hard to find any good information at all. I know when I was doing an ftp upload to a local server (so basically maxing out my upload speed) and I had all QoS off except for Voice QoS which was set to "auto", it throttled the ftp upload down from about 45K/s to 15K/s. Why a 90kbit codec (maybe a tad more with overhead) needs 30K/s though, I don't know. Obviously the RT31P2 doesn't know what your
Vonage
quality settings are, but since the device was made for
Vonage
, they should know the highest quality codec is only 90kbit.

I'm curious also how the device 'knows' what my maximum speed is (to reserve).. for instance my wireless to my house fluxes (hehe I made that word up.. ahem).. from 1.5meg to 800bits/sec.... how can the device possibly know what I'm able to get at any one time?

who says it does? not following you there. are you saying the automatic setting must be "reading" your bandwidth availability and making its QoS setting based on that?

What I'm asking is.. IF the QOS setting RESERVES a certain amount of bandwidth.... how can it possibly do this unless it knows what my maximum is? In other words.. to RESERVE 30k I have to know I can use 200k.. and then throttle me back to 170k.. follow?
