He might have been reading up on modem hacks found on some other forums. Maybe.

I am confused, my download speed is about the same from test to test but my upload speed on the Vonage site is 10-15 and on other sites it ranges from 75-144. why is it so much slower on the Vonage test

I have cable ISP, and the speeds do vary. Greatly. I think this is the cause of all my woes with Voip, but it's been better since a tech came to fix a prob with my line.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we need to disable our Anti virus scanner and firewall in order to use the speed test. I did after a few tests showing '0' calls possible, and that number went up to 'one'.

Man, I live in a small remote town, and my ISP is in the City about 100 miles away, so life just **** in general. This means that when I use their speed test, my speeds are faster, because they're closer, and when I use other ones, the speeds are slower. Way slower. This doesn't really mean that the speeds for me to surf or call locally will be better than if I'm at a site, or on a call that's far away, but it does have some effect.

Well, after a few tests, with the firewall and Anti virus scanner turned off, this was the best speed I could get.

Moral of the story: Don't get Voip if you live in a rural community. Holy cow my speeds are slow!!!

FYI, most tests are super slow, except for the local ISP test, which is, of course, decent.

That test was an eye opener. Here's my results. I ran it on my wireless desktop. So, I could have 3 high quality Voip lines. Good to know.
