I made some adjustments to the
Voip Speed Test
Those of you with very high bandwidth connections should now receive more accurate test results.
I don't remember what I received before but I know it wasn't this high (which is more accurate according to the cable co)
My Results

Upload 551,112 bps

BTW: This is behind a WRT54GP2 (one that actually has no background noise too)

Post subject: new customer, slow isp
Hello,
I've just run the speed test and here are the disappointing results.
Download 1,628,032 bps
Upload 123,352 bps
QOS 10%
RTT 10 ms
MaxPause 1722 ms

Voip
Analysis

I have Charter pipeline for my ISP, I'm also using a Linksys router. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?
Thanks,
Brian

Post subject: VoIP voice quality degrading
I have been observing my
Vonage
voice quality deteriorating over the last several weeks. After seeing this I began clocking my speed and latency over my ADSL line from Bangkok to the states with various tools which showed poor results at certain times coinciding with poor
Vonage
voice quality.
I now have these kind of numbers (much better) but even worse voice quality.
Download 1,972,600 bps
Upload 343,696 bps
QOS 87%
RTT 3 ms
MaxPause 125 ms
By poor quality means the other party can hear me perfectly but I can not understand 90% of what they are saying due to the flutter. This sample test above is after having a completely unsuccessful call to my voice mail.
I'm using:
Provider: TRUE ADSL 2.5mbps up 512 dn
ADSL Modem: ADE-4000 (Planet Conexant - Hasbani)
Voip
Router: Moto VT1005v ((current config in parallel)
Calls made when other PCs not active on the network
Anyone have ideas on how to increase reliable phone call percentages? Have not had a decent one in weeks. -JD

Now looking worse on the QoS side. These figures vary widely depending on when I test. I'm guessing its all about traffic to/from Thailand..
Any ideas on how to tweak something? I may go so far as getting two ADSL connections if necessary and use a dual WAN router but that will take months.

As I have posted many time before, and no one has really responded, I'll try yet again using QOS (great choice of name!, confuse the noobs even more when you explain how to set QoS)
I certainly don't profess to be a
Voip
SME but isn't a normal
Voip
call supposed to be 64k? SnoopSpecial's findings are disconcerting indeed and I would be very interested to hear from an SME who can shed light on this.
I currently work from home (taking conference calls regularly) as well as have a second PC in the house that the wife uses. I have an (advertised) 3MB/256k service and was presuming my usage would have enough free bandwidth to support moving the home phone over but given these results I am concerned now.

While on the phone, my upload gets killed, and the QOS goes up? As my MaxPause goes down? Hmm.. well it seems that these 2 stats get better while im on the phone. Ive ran this test numerous times while on the phone, and those 2 seem consistent. BTW, I have Comcast in Portland, Oregon with a Vonage/Linksys Router.

Tested the broadband at work since they have a higher upload speed and here is what I got. Says that from here, I can have 16 simultaneous quality connections...
Download 2,029,312 bps
Upload 1,219,160 bps
QOS 41%
RTT 82 ms
MaxPause 78 ms
The QOS still seems sucky, though mine at home is even worse, and the calls sound fine. It would seem to me that you have to run the test while on a call to get the true QOS. I get a good one everytime im on a phone call.
