I would greatly appreciate any help in suggesting/trouble shooting how I have my Vonage system configured for my office. We are a start-up company and would like to avoid the $125+ service fee of a Vonage professional coming out to us. The phones do work currently, but the fax and roll-over do not work as I would like. I have 3 phone numbers and 1 fax (supposed to be the free dedicated fax line).

I would like the system to work as follows. Phone number ending in 3333 is the office line, 3334 is the fax line(and possibly credit card?). #8452 is the rollover line for 3333 if 3333 is busy. 3333 and 8452 ring at the front desk, as well as my office. 3332 will ring only in room #5.

The equipment: I have 2 Vonage V-Portal adapters. Adapter #1 has 3333 on line 1 and 3334 on line 2. Adapter #2 has 3332 on line 1 and 8452 on line #2. The DSL comes in to my server area. The internet signal goes to adapter #1, then to adapter #2, then to my wireless router (D-link) and then to my 16 port switch (D-link)

Current Vonage wiring: Adapter #1, line 1 has a 5 jack multi-line splitter. Adapter #1, line 2 has NOTHING. Out of the 5 jack splitter I have wiring running to the front desk and my office. At the front desk I have a 2 jack splitter into which the phone and credit card machine are plugged.

Adapter #2, line 1 has a line straight to room #5 (still waiting for the number to officially transfer from AT&T…. hence we can call out, but not receive calls to 3332). Adapter #2, line 2 has a line direct to the fax machine.

Currently when we get a phone call on 3333, there will be rollover onto 3334 if 3333 is busy. This is not what I want, but cannot figure out if this is a software configuration issue or a wiring issue. I want 8452 to be the rollover for 3333. Previously I had Adapter#1, line 2 (3334) plugged directly into the fax, but then all rollover phone calls were going to the fax machine. If it is a software issue, can I configure this myself or do I need to patiently spend 2 more hours on the phone trying to get Vonage to do it for me?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help,

The feature you call rollover is usually called hunting. You can administer hunting among your lines on the Features tab of your Vonage online account. Turn off the undesired hunting from 3333 to 3334, and then add hunting from 3333 to 8452. Hunting is controlled by software at Vonage, subject to your configuration. It is not a feature of your wiring.
