Post subject: AT&T 2Wire DSL problem
We got
Vonage
just after Labor Day, running on AT&T 3 Mbps DSL. The
Vonage
box Model VDV21-VD was plugged into an old AT&T 2Wire HomePortal 1000SW DSL modem/router, then out to a Linysys Wireless-G broadband router that handled the network, consisting of a wired PC, a wireless laptop and a wireless printer. The phones are Panasonic 6.0 DECT. Prior to two weeks ago everything worked just fine.
Two weeks ago the modem/router died, and AT&T gave me a new 2Wire 2701 HG-B, and in the process took the Linksys out of the system. So the
Vonage
box now connects to the new 2Wire, with one PC plugged directy into it. The laptop and printer are still wireless, working from the 2Wire. When we're on the phone, especially on speaker, the internet crawls or dies altogether. I'm at the low end of the bandwidth saver already. Anybody have any ideas as to what I can do to restore the functionality that I had before???

2701 HGB - Unable to browse on wireless
My two wireless laptops running XP Pro won't browse properly on the 2Wire gateway. All lights are green and they work fine on wired connections. When I type in an individual URL the page appears but I am unable to browse away from that page. This is true for both IE6 or Firefox. If I go to the Yahoo homepage and type in search terms and hit search, nothing happens and the page just stalls--forever. Same thing in Google. I am unable to click away from any page using the links on that page. Everything is A-Ok when the laptops are plugged directly into the router using a network cable. After initial installation a month ago everything was fine. This seemed to start on its own after about 2 weeks and affected both laptops at the same time. They work fine on a friend's DLink/cable wireless network. I have been through all of the manual settings, double-checked the network keys, tried disabling the firewall, moved the gateway to a different room and nothing seems to work.

A few things you can give a try.
1) Go to 192.168.1.254
-- This will take you to the modem's settings
2) Click on Home Network icon on the top of the page
3) Click the link that says Wireless Settings and type in your modem password
4) Change the wireless channel to 10 and change the power setting to 9 than save the settings
5) Go back to the computer where you want the wireless setup on, refresh the network list a few times and let it reconnect
-- If you're still loosing your connection then it could be one of the following that you'll need to take care of:
---- Make sure you are not using a 2.4 GHz cordless phone (or any type of cordless phone in that matter) near the 2Wire.
---- Make sure you don't have your modem sitting on top of your computer tower (big no no right there).
---- Make sure you don't have speakers near the 2Wire (the magnet inside the speaker would cause some issues).
---- Make sure it's not by printers or CRT monitors.
---- If anything, make sure that printers, speakers, CRT monitors, and the computer tower is at least 2 to 3 feet apart from the 2wire (at the bare minimal).
---- If you have a XBox 360 and using a wireless controller, make sure it's no where near the 2wire (as I've discovered reading through some forums that people had this type of issue before, never had this issue myself personally but just in case).
---- If the 2wire is in the kitchen, make sure it's no where near the fridge, microwave, and stove.
-- Other then checking for interference, also make sure your wireless adapter on your computer is, in fact, turned on and working (can you see other wireless signals?)
-- If those doesn't work, you can always factory reset the modem by pressing and holding the reset button for 30 seconds.

I don't know WHY your ISP told you to use channel 11 but don't, use channel 10 since channel 11 **** and you'll still be capped at power of 4.
And other then the krtlock error, I really don't see anything wrong but I'm too lazy to actually look through it.
But try changing the wireless channel to 10 and keep speakers, monitors, microwave, anything of high power devices and cordless phones away from the 2wire and your laptop and see if anything good comes from it.

Ok thanks for the info.. will make the change and start rearranging the stuff on my desk. I have a 4' metal filing cabinet on the side where it is now as well so will try and relocate it to the other side of my desk.
Does height matter say on the floor vs. 8' up on a shelf?

Phoenix, AZ If you ask me, having it higher up and feather away from other high power equipment and wireless devices, the better.

Ok i got it to work.. all the things i tried for naught. I ended up switching the channel to 6 and now everything works like a charm. Even with the router sitting back where it was originally. Just over my pc speakers. Just above my scanner. Right under my kodak phone dock and printer and right next to my cordless phone. Lol.. crazy.
Thanks all for your help.

Yep, that will happen, just missing around with the channels would let you find one that's not being used by your cordless devices and as long as your at a good distance should be just fine.
Hell, my router is about 1 feet away from one of my speakers and I normally have my cordless phone, cell phone, and wireless 360 game controller right next to it and it still works like a charm.
