Does anyone know which is better?
I currently have the Linksys RT31P2 hooked up but sometimes my caller states that I sound far away. I was wondering if the Motorola VT1000 would be any better. This problem doesn't always occur just sometimes.
I read in a report that the best VOIP providers were Voicepulse and Vonage and the hookup they mentioned (w/Vonage) was with a Motorola VT1000. Just wondering if I should have bought the VT1000 instead of the LinksysRT31P2.
Thanks for all the future replies. |

I have absolutely no problems with my LinkSys RT31P2. Prior, I was using the Motorola. It was inconvenient in that I had to decide if it should go in front of or behind my firewall, I couldn't always access the web interface, etc. It seemed like it would be great for someone only running one computer at home, but I have a bunch of machines networked and the RT31P2 really hooked me up.
I have:
RT31P2
BEFSR81 8-port router
WAP54G Wireless Access Point
Everything worked soooooo much better after I traded my old junker Toshiba modem in for a new one. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND investigating your modem upgrade options before you start dissing your other networking gear.
Good luck! |

I have had the Motorola and got rid of it as fast as I could! Piece of junk!
Very buggy too! Definately go for the LInksys. If you want more detail I could write a book! |

So, what issues were you having. Mine seems to work ok for the past four months. |

I'm very happy with my Motorolla too, which is actually a replacement for a Linksys that had "white noise" on the line. This appears to be a common problem with the Linksys |

just wanted to voice something that may be obvious (guess i am in a venting mood today) - what makes boards like this bs is ppl who makes statements but 1) do not support it in their post but worst than that 2) do not support their post when an intersted party(s) ask for specifics or clarification. I wish these types of posters would just sit in their closets and play w/ their nintendos or something else pleasurable. These ppl take the wind out of the good these boards provide, literally. |

In general, the Linksys RT is a better device than the Motorola VT (known as the MTA), although as with just about every other MAN-MADE piece of equipment, there will b defective & not as well built INDIVIDUAL units that make it out in the marketplace. Most of u guys (probably ALL of u guys) that were experiencing that intermittent Caller ID problem r using the MTA. The new firmware corrects this issue (has been pushed to most MTA's by now). |
