I'm about to switch from Qwest to Vonage and don't want to keep my current phone no. I know I can select my home area code, but can I select from several available numbers? For example, if I wanted to find a number ending in 0 or 00, can I pick from a list or do they just assign one?

If you go through the online sign-up process, you will have the option to select from a list of available numbers in your area.

Darrell, that must be a change b/c it was my understanding that one only has the choice of area codes. that's good news.

I wish they offered this same option to current subscribers via online. If a current subscriber wanted to change their number by going through their web account, there is NO listing to choose from for available numbers...you're just assigned a new number. If you call in to Vonage and request a number change, Vonage customer service "might" present you an option to choose from available numbers in your area. I've never tried this myself, I'm only speculating.

Darrell....If you want to change your number and want to be able to choose a number, you can go to your web account and act like your going to add a new line. When you attempt to add a new line, you have the option of seeing the first 5 TN's the query pulls from your selected market. If you see a number you like, call to tech support and tell them you want to change your number and that you know which number from the database you want. They can then do a DID swap for the number you want. As long as no one else grabbed it by the time you contact them, its yours.

Thanks for the information and suggestion, I had not thought of trying to change the number that way. BTW, what does "DID" stand for?

A DID is your telephone number. It stands for Direct Inward Dialing. This is what the TN's are referred to internally. Just make sure you do not complete the New Line add in your web account. You only going as far as viewing the TN's listed.
