Starting about three days ago, we are getting calls from people who say they just received a call from us, but we did not call out at all during that time period. Their call to us appears on the calling activity page, but no outgoing call from us to them appears.

I don't know where to start with this one. I would think that if one of our phones was randomly dialing out, the call would appear as an out bound call. I would also think that if the VTA were somehow dialing out, that would also appear as an outgoing call. It almost seems as though one of Vonage's computers is making the calls somehow?

Anyone have any ideas?

The only thing I can think of would be the network not available feature (if set) dialing to the specified phone number if the internet or Vonage device is down. Other than that barring no problem with the physical phone itself I would call into Vonage and they have a way to monitor the device in real time.

Your Caller ID was probablly spoofed, possibly by a telemarketer. The Caller ID technology is inheriently insecure and should never be used to identify a caller. With access to the right equipment (and/or a willing provider) a caller can make any phone number appear on the Caller ID of someone they call.

trekologer is completely correct. We see these complaints all the time from random customers. We thoroughly check through CDR's and proxy logs only to find the calls placed using the customer's number to the people calling them back were never placed over Vonage's network.

Telemarketer's or anyone with PBX capability with direct T-1 trunks can produce any ANI they want. They will usually use a random number that is automatically generated or they just make one up. Unfortunately someone just happen to generate your number. There is nothing Vonage can do since the calls were not placed through their service. This happens with other providers as well. It is no isolated to Vonage customers.
