I don't really use a calling card but a few of my friends do to call certain countries. Their rates are significantly cheaper than Vonage's rates to these particular countries. That is the only reason they're not switching to Vonage. It seems you can't call out using a calling card company with a Vonage phone.

I tried calling using a calling card company by calling 1019898 and then the phone number but with my Vonage phone it didn't work. After I enter around half the digits it says the call could not be completed.

I'm not sure if Vonage would be willing to do anything about it since they'd lose business in certain long distance but they do have to gain by new membership. I'm not even sure if they have the ability to make it work.

Does anyone know if there's any way around it?

1019898 is not a calling card. It is what's called as a dial-around code. It allows the third party to bill the charge to your phone bill. Vonage does not allow you to be charged to your bill via a third party, such as through a 900 number, 976 number, or dialaround code. You can use calling card services where you dial an actual phone number to access the service (usually a toll free number or a local phone number).

Sorry, I was referring to the dial-around code (I'll edit the subject of this thread). Myself I don't use either one as you can tell. I saw firsthand that the dial-around code won't work with Vonage. Does anyone have any experience using a calling card with Vonage? Is everything the same as with a regular phone?

As long as the access number is a normal phone number it will work.
