Currently residing in Japan and brought my Vonage D-Link wireless router with me. My ISP is Japanese based company called OCN and the cable modem is provided by NTT.
Looking for advice or help regarding Vonage installation overseas--have been working on this for the past couple of days. Step-by-step manual instructions are useless--I've tried several times unsuccessfully to reinstall router. The ethernet and internet wireless lights are on, but the power light continually blinks and no phone light appears at all.
Anyone else residing in Japan and have experienced the same problems? Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated! |

Well when it boils down to it there really aren't many reasons why you cannot get your device installed.
Your device first needs to obtain an IP from the Modem or router that its connected to, it then needs to connect with the Vonage servers and thats really it.
Now if your modem is able to receive an IP from the modem then its likely the internet provider is blocking vonage either intentionally or unintentionally. If you are not able to obtain an IP address from the modem or router the dlink is connected to then that is your problem.
If it is your internet provider I would contact their support, if there is any, and see what can be done. |

Thank you for your timely response. I just had a 3hr conversation with Vonage Tech Support without resolution--I used a neighbor's Vonage phone to contact them, and BTW our neighbor has the exact same Internet Provider.
Supposedly, after a thorough diagnostic test there is nothing wrong w/our D-link Vonage router. The problem lies with the Internet service provider (OCN). After contacting OCN, and believe me it was a very frustrating due to the language barriers, there is nothing wrong with the connection; so they recommended I conact the manufactuer for the modem (company named NTT). Long story short, still no resolution. Still unable to obtain a IP address for the router. Our DSL modem password has been reset and applied to the D-link router--still not working. According to NTT, no firewall is built into the modem. I'm at a lost...completely stuck. |

Have you tried using your vonage adapter at your friend's place and vice versa? |

that is my next step. although, i'm a bit skeptical to do it b/c my neighbor had the same problems & and is a little reluctant to unplug his Vonage router in fear of losing his connection once again. my neighbor has come over to help troubleshoot as well, applying the same techniques he used to get his Vonage service to work--no luck.
i've just spent another 3hrs with vonage tech support, bless his heart, without resolution. apparently, it's a matter the dsl modem authenticating the vonage router. so our next step is to conference call the ISP tomorrow and have them register my vonage router into their system--easier said than done. wish me luck...i'll be sure to update. if this works, maybe this thread can help the next poor soul residing in Japan from having the same problems i've had. |

You are lucky Vonage would even help you since you are not in the U.S.
Best of luck on this. I am not sure if Vonage Talk will work for you since your adapter isn't connected, at least with VT you could make and receive calls until you got Vonage up and running. |
