Hey guys.. had Vonage for almost a month now working great.. using the Linksys PAP2 had 0 problems.. until today Smile

THE DREADED NUMBER TRANSFER Smile

So my roommates decide they want to transfer our old POTS number to Vonage and get rid of the landline.. (smart move!) To make this easier to explain we'll call the old POTS number 859-523-xxxx.

The phone number we were using for our Vonage line was 859-215-xxxx... I went ahead and faxed in our LOA and phone bill then went to the website and clicked on the "Change My Number" link.. support had already given me some instructions and a nice credit on my account so it wouldn't cost me anything to switch my number.. I went through all the steps and told Vonage that I would like to use their virtual number (859-215-xxxx) until my phone service released my old number (859-523-xxxx).

Everything sounds golden.. right?

WRONG Smile Here's what happens.. no matter what number is dialed (859-215-xxxx or 859-523-xxxx) the call ALWAYS rings to the old POTS line (859-523-xxxx). And here is the kicker.. that isn't even set up as my network unavalibilty number.. thats pointing to my cell phone! Smile

Another problem is when I actually pick up my Vonage line it seems to be working perfect.. studdered dial tone (signaling voicemail).. I dial a number and always get a fast busy signal Smile

Something is messed up somewhere eh Smile I called tech support tonight and they said they would need to submit a ticket for the engineers to take a look at.. I'll keep you guys posted on what develops.. anyone else had this problem? Seems like a one shot mess up to me.. something got crossed somewhere.

Sounds like you now a virtual number, which you cannot always check your VM from. Try using the # that assigned you first as the number to check.

Also, see if they have your account call-forwarded to your POTS number.
Features page when you sign in to your account has that tab.

My guess to what is happening, and is subject with change when corrected.

There is no new Vonage number.. it took the number that I was assigned when I signed up for Vonage (859-215-xxxx) but it did list it as virtual.

And call forwarding isn't set up.

I just woke up a few mins ago and did a quick test.. seems as though that number is ringing through correctly again.. I need to do a few more tests though.

Haven't heard anything back from Vonage yet. I'll keep you guys posted.

Thanks! Xiteer

The exact same thing happened to me last week. I signed up for the service and obtained a new phone number to try the service out. Things worked great and I loved the service.

Last Tuesday, I went to the web site and selected "Change my Phone Number" and started the LNP process. The existing number became a temporary virtual number and everything looked like it was setup correctly.

That night when I got home from work, I had no "Phone 1" light but a dialtone. Every time I called out, I would get a fastbusy signal. When I dialed the temporary Vonage number, it would forward to the number I was porting. Everything on the web site was configured as it should be.

I filed a call on Tuesday evening, and they escalated the ticket to Engineering. I called back on Thursday morning, and there were still no updates on what was causing the outage.

I ended up cancelling the service on Thursday evening. Customer Service was unable to determine the status of the engineering ticket, and there was no solution in sight.

I'm interested in hearing how your situation is resolved.
