Are you satisfied with Vonage Canada's only billing option?
Absolutely! I signed up knowing credit card payment was their only option, so why wouldn't I be happy?!

PostPosted: Sun Sep 14, 2008 1:44 am    Post subject: VOIP-Compatible Home Alarms in the GTA Reply with quote Back to top

Hey folks,

I've been a Vonage Canada subscriber for approximately one year. I am very happy with the service (although not too crazy about the credit card billing situation but whatever....) and I'm in the market for a home alarm system.

Previously I used a standard telephone phone line and was an AlarmForce customer. As soon as I went to VOIP, AlarmForce tries to sell me their line cut technology "Alarm Plus". Fortunately I fulfilled my contract with them so I canceled my service & sent them a letter explaining that the switch to VOIP was to save money and that since their standard service was not guaranteed to protect VOIP lines & required me to add Alarm Plus to my protection, it would ultimately be offsetting my savings. What does this part have to do with what I'm asking about? Not much; just ranting.

Anyhoo....I've searched the forum and came across some good information about VOIP compatible home alarms, but I need more details. I learned of a couple of solutions like :

1) UControl
2) Alarm.com

I currently do not have a home alarm system, and use Vonage Canada as my phone line. Now I've tried contacting Alarm.com via e-mail but nobody has gotten back to me yet. So I sent them a second e-mail just minutes ago & I also sent one to UControl right after I sent Alarm.com my second e-mail.

Seeing as how each home has different security needs, I'll spare you the silliness of asking how much for the hardware, but here's what I think is reasonable to ask :

1) What kind of monitoring fees am I looking at?
2) If there are various monitoring services / fees, can you please list some of these?
3) Is this available in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cool

Cheers.
