Hello, I have read threads that talk about switching to the Motorola SB5100 modem. I understand this will help with echos and choppy calls. I am having those problems and I have the Motorola SB4100. Has anyone had similar problems with the 4100 and if you did did it get better with the 5100?? Also I was told to move the modem and Linksys phone adapter at least a foot away from each other and the PC. Does this really make a difference?? Any help would be great. Thanks. |

I can't be of much help, but wanted you to know I use the SB3100 and it is about a foot away from my Linksys ATA. I do not and never had echo's nor choppy calls.
My IP is Insight broadband. |

I went to Circuit City and purchased the SB5100. Based on posts to this forum it seemed like people were happy with that. To my surprise Time Warner (Roadrunner) will not "allow" me to use this modem. They said the modem has to be supplied by them. Has anyone else run into this? Then they wonder why I won't let them supply all my services ( Cable,Internet, Phone). Any suggestions?? |

only thing I can think of is to call a few local TW offices and see what cable modem they're giving out. you should be able to get another one that way, but obviously you have no control over what it is. |

Thanks reebok. The reason I purchased one instead of "trading" in is because I wanted to keep the one I have also, at least I know what I got. I am afraid that I may get one that is worse and not be able to get the first one back. Thanks for the help, I don't think I have much choice. They would love me to get their Digital Phone, maybe that is why they don't mind if their equipment doesn't work well with Vonage. I am not into conspiracy theories but you never know. |

Any suggestions?? | Looking at CCs weekly ad http://weeklyad.circuitcity.com/circuitcity/default.aspx?action=browsepagelarge&storeid=2396943&rapid=100825&pagenumber=11 they list Roadrunner as one of the approved carriers for BB. Someone is lying, tell them you are going to file a complaint with the BBB over their deceptive advertising practices and see if they will let you use your own. Also I would look into the FCC and FTC to see if they are allowed to exclude you from using your own. They would all love to charge a monthly rental fee if they could force us to. And if Comcast isn't able to force me to use their modem for a fee I would imagine there must be a law against it. Just my 3 cents. |
