My Vonage has been working fine for me, but I was wondering on how to plug in other phones into any wall jack jack in the house and be able to call from them using Vonage. I have a standalone dsl service. I tried using this guide HERE, but when I unplug the two cables running from my side of the NID,

My internet doesn't work.

I decided to keep it plugged in, then plug in the second line out from the Vonage box to a phone jack and I get this error

My old phone service is discontinued and I can only make calls from Vonage. It would be nice f all my phone jacks would cooperate. Anybody able to help?

Sounds like what you are wanting to do.

Also you should post this to the hard wiring forum so that those with the wiring experience see it.

I'm not a wiring expert, but what they are saying is that to do this that you need to split your 4 wires that go to your phone jack so that 2 wires go to each jack instead. (along with the work in the NID)

Using home wiring with DSL isn't straightforward because you need your connection from the phone company for it to work. This is why you lost internet when you disconnected from the NID.

This setup seems like it will work, but its more complex since you have to mess around with the individual wires within your jacks.

judging from your comment, this is indicative of your dsl use for the internet, which butterman picked up on in his post.

jjbathar, the reason why your situation is more complicated is b/c your internet is carried by the phone line. Now the good news is that your house is probably already pre-wired with both lines throughout all your jacks.

Before you got Vonage, you probably had line 1 voice line and line 2 is your dsl for internet connectivity.

After you disconnected your voice line (or did you), your line 1 is probably not used and your line 2 is still being used by dsl.

So what you need to do is find phone jack that worked with your previous voice line and plug your phone wire from your Vonage phone 1 to the jack. Now it should light up all the jacks that were previously with your voice land line.

Of course, you want to make sure that line is disconnected in the NIU in your picture.

hope this helps.

We seem to have a parallel discussion on this here and over in the hard wiring forum.
