Vonage V-Portal with ZTE Modem

I am in Russia trying to connect my Portal to a ZTE ZxDSL Modem # 831. Has anyone else had problems using this modem? I can not get it to work with my PPPoE User name and password. THe DSL service works fine, but the Portal will not accept it. Is there something about this modem that presents a special problem? Yes, I have tried everything that Vonage says to do. THanks.

Do you get an error message when you connect the V-Portal to your modem and if so what's the error message? I see that the modem you have can also be configured to be a router. If you are using it as a router, make sure that the ethernet cable connecting the modem/router is connected to the blue internet port of the V-Portal.

Thanks for your reply. My ZTE modem has 2 output ports, a USB and an ethernet. I have tried the following configurations:

1) Modem ethernet port connected to Vonage blue port. No connection to computer. Get error code 8.
2) Same as #1 but added connection from vonage yellow port to my computer. Get error code #8 and no internet at computer.
3) Same as #1 but added USB from modem to my computer. Get error code #8 and get good internet connection at computer.

When I go into the portal internet connection page I see my user name and password displayed correctly.

I always get error code #8

Any ideas?

You can try putting a router in between the modem and the vportal, and then setting up your pppoe settings on the router, and leaving the connection type as dhcp on the vportal. Also, do not use the usb and ethernet ports on your modem at the same time, the usb port takes priority over the ethernet.
