Hi,
I setup the vonage voip. Eveything works great but I just found out that when I talked to ADT about voip. They said it is not compatible. (Suprised me becasue I ask Vonage sales rep before I ordered and she said vonage voip compatible with ADT) They gave me an option is to setup cellular backup but it costs me $400 to install and $10 more per month for monitoring. I told them this is not an option at all because one of the main reason for me to switch from landline to voip is financial advantage. Do you guys get the same problem if using ADT? What is my options? I have checked other thread about alarm.com, nextalarm.com and ucontrol. But it seems like I have to spend few hunderds or even more to change my alarm equipment or at least to change to one of the adapter ($100 but who knows how reliable doing this way) offered by nextalarm.com. Again, I think many people do think that switching from landline to voip is financail advantage but it turns out cost more to start. I like to swtich to vonage voip but if that is the only case. I may just return the voip and keep the landline.
Any suggestion would be appreciated! |

Read this from the Vonage site.

Bottom line is that it may work, but its not supported by either company so if you have issues you are on your own to resolve them.
I'm sure people have made it work, it just comes down to how much of a chance you want to take and how much time you want to sink in to trying to get it working.
The option Vonage recommends is keeping a basic POTS ine for the alarm which as you say negates the cost savings. |

My ADT system has been functioning perfectly for over three years with Vonage. You disconnect the telco wiring on the right side of the interface and replace it with wiring from your adapter and the ADT system gets a dial tone and doesn't care where it comes from. I have had two false alarms where the system works and the periodic tests work every time. Just because it is not "supported" doesn't mean it won't work. |

Where is the telco wiring? Are you talking about the ADT metal box. Could you share how do you do it? Since not connecting to land line. How are you going to connec to the v-portal to get dial tone?
Anyone tried that with success? |

I am talking about the telephone company interface where the line from the pole enters the box, mine is on the front of my house. I disconnected their line and ran a line from the adapter to that box and hooked it up where the telco line used to be. At that point all the jacks in my house worked off the Vonage adapter including the one feeding the ADT box in the closet. |

us_matrix,
there is a sub forum here called "Fax,Tivo, & Alarms" that deal with your situation specifically. Consider surfing in that subforum and you should get a lot of testimonials on how to get it to work. |

There are alarm companies that install systems for free but you must keep them for 5 years. If you've had ADT for more than 5 years, just tell them you're going to get another service. That usually wakes them up. Too many lazy #@$%&)@ people in this world. |

Hi, I had the same problem, but I was able to use a device called an ABN adapter and I got service from a company called NextAlarm. I think the address was www.nextalarm.com . Check that out. Even if you don't have your installer code for your panel you can still use the adapter. |
