I have a Dlink vwr-vd wireless router provided by Vonage. I have Earthlink cable internet. My router tends to freeze up and not let internet traffic or phone calls through from time to time. It is becoming more frequent and I keep having to reset it. This returns everything to normal, but I can't keep resetting it forever. It is about 18months old.
Any troubleshooting suggestions or is time for some new hardware? |

When you reset the D-Link, do you also reboot the cable modem? Are you absolutely sure that it's not your cable modem freezing up which would in turn cause the D-Link VWR to also lock up? You would have to remove your Vonage device and connect your cable modem directly to your computer to know for certain and observe if your internet connection is being disrupted.
If it turns out that the D-Link is at issue, besides a firmware update that's provided by Vonage to potentially correct the problem, there's really not much you can do to correct the frequent freezes other than replacing the D-Link with a new device. |

I have a brand new cable modem. I don't have to reboot it too and if I connect it directly to a computer, everything is fine. It is definately the Dlink. According to Vonage, the device upgrades it's firmware automatically.
So I have more questions. I don't know if I should start a new post or continue here, but here I go.
Can I buy another ATA device from a supplier other that Vonage and have it work? Will Vonage give me a hard time about that?
Cost is an issue right now. I have a spare wireless router. So if I could just get a new ATA device, I'll be ok. |

You can purchase the device from another supplier or retailer as long as the device is approved for Vonage service. If you're thinking of purchasing the device off of E-Bay or the like, I would be careful to make certain that the device is brand new or never used. If the device is used and the MAC address of the device is still assigned to another account, you will have trouble registering the device.
On the Vonage website the V-Portal is listed for $9.99. You might even be able to get a replacement device for free if you contact them and let them know that your current device is locking up and freezing. |
