It would seem I am having problems with both static and connecting to my home wiring.
I have a new home, never connected to SBC. I installed a new drop from my basement to one of the rooms where the phone connection. Unforetuately the builder did not do home run install.
After connecting via a splitter to the phone lines upstairs, all went well for ~ 4 days. Then the line started to have static, eventually degrading to a truly awful connection. If you unplugged the new connection, and went with a phone direct to the linksys router, no static great connect.
Eventually, the phone line showed as open, with the linksys phone port blinking when plugged into the wall. (When the phone is in use, the port blinks, when not it is a solid yellow on the router). Consequently, the router sees it as a open (short) connect, on a phone call you get the message that the number can't be reached.
Unplug from the home wiring, service returns perfectly.
Has anyone got any suggestions?? While I can buy a new wireless phone, its kinda stupid that I can't use the 3 great phones I already have. They all work great when directly connect to the linksys router.
I have purchased a network tester to test with tones down the line to look for a short.
Any other suggestions?? Truly frustrating. |

Have you made sure that the feed from the telephone company isn’t hooked up to the lines going in to the house? You also might want to take a look at the other phone jacks in the house and make sure they all have good connections since it sounds like the builder just had the electrician daisy chain the phones in the house. Do all the phone jacks in the house have the static problem? |
