Post subject: Voice Quality
Hi Guys,
I've been using
Vonage
now for about 4 weeks. So far I'm pretty happy.
No breaks or drops in telephone calls.
However, I am noticing that the voice quality is often quite tinny. Most times it's fine when I'm calling within the States. It seems definitely worse when I'm calling the UK.
I'm using a V-portal connected directly to my cable modem, so I don't think that I have a QoS type issue. Also I think that my bandwidth is very good. I'm using Comcast and when I do a bandwidth test using speedtest.net, my download speed has never been worse than 20M+
and my upload speed is always about 1.5M.
My phone is a Panasonic Dect 6.0 and my home network is a mix of G and N (5GHz) - nothing has changed other than adding
Vonage
.
I'm definitely happy with
Vonage
but it would be nice to be able to get wireline quality.
Is the tinny sound typical?
Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Post subject: Solution to V-Portal Voice Quality ? Problem with slow speed
Did you go into the V-Portal router settings and enable "QOS" ? Quality of service , I believe should be check marked on---IT may help you with a consistent quality connection as it prioritizes voice over all other internet traffic. Also if you have a firewall on-- on your computer ------turn the firewall off in V-Portal ---it cuts the speed down to around 3Mbps. When this is unchecked your speeds will be normal.
