Hi Guys, I've been using Vonage now for about 4 weeks. So far I'm pretty happy. No breaks or drops in telephone calls.
However, I am noticing that the voice quality is often quite tinny. Most times it's fine when I'm calling within the States. It seems definitely worse when I'm calling the UK.
I'm using a V-portal connected directly to my cable modem, so I don't think that I have a QoS type issue. Also I think that my bandwidth is very good. I'm using Comcast and when I do a bandwidth test using speedtest.net, my download speed has never been worse than 20M+ and my upload speed is always about 1.5M.
My phone is a Panasonic Dect 6.0 and my home network is a mix of G and N (5GHz) - nothing has changed other than adding Vonage.
I'm definitely happy with Vonage but it would be nice to be able to get wireline quality.
Is the tinny sound typical?
Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

I've been a Vonage user for a little over a year and I was about to post a similar topic because I'm at a loss of what to do with the quality. I've been through 3 different devices (the dlink box, a linksys and now V-Portal) and talked to support 6+ times, performing tests and replacing hardware and nothing gives a satisfactory result in phone quality. It always echo's, but for the most part its usable, but often in the middle of conversations the quality goes into the toilet to the point where neither side can understand each other. I'm presently looking at other options because I don't find they have a solution for it! |

post your test results on here. I am not having any issues with echo with Vonage. Usually if there is an issue it is with your internet provider. |

It is better than Skype but I would say after 9 months of use that I have saved a lot of money and cut off or tinny sounds were around 15% of my calls -- not bad as nothing seems perfect ... yet.
