3. Upload 260 - 360 kbps, Download 5100 - 6700 kbps
4. Cable modem: Surfboard SB 4100
5. Adapter: Linksys WRTP54G
6. Setup: Modem--->Vonage adapter---->PC
7. The time to be able to have a conversation on the phone keeps increasing with time. After a few days, I have to power-down / power-up the modem and adapter to restore service to a reasonable level. The problem occurs with both incoming and outgoing calls. For incoming calls, you hear the ring and pick up the phone, but cannot hear or talk to the person on the other end for 5 to 8 seconds. The person at the other end continues to hear ringing. For outgoing calls, the other person answers, but cannot initiate a conversation for 5 to 8 seconds. If you connect with an answering machine, you only hear about half of the message. The delay period goes to zero immediately after the power-down / power-up cycle, but over several days the delay continues to increase.

I don't see anything in your test data to explain the problem. I have the awful feeling that you're going to need to work this with Vonage customer support.

I noticed that you're restarting both the TA (Linksys WRTP54G) and cable modem. What happens if you only restart the TA when you find that its in that state? Also were the tests performed when you were in the trouble state? If not, they're not very meaningful. Can you perform them when you are having a problem?

The submitted data was taken when the problem was occuring. Since that time Vonage tech service instructed me to power-down/power-up both the modem and the adapter plus they said they made some "adjustments" at their end. I will resubmit connection speed data if and when the problem re-occurs. At that time I will just reboot the TA (adapter).

I noticed that you have SB4100. Would an upgrade to a more recent modem help? It might also be that the your wrtp54g is starting to go.

geraleigh,

I say that b/c I used to have a 4100 and got a new 5120 when I moved. I still use my rt31p2 which I believe predates your wrtp54g so I am not sure if your Vonage device is a problem.

the only way you can test it is by going to a friend's house and using the wrtp54g there for a while and see if the connection delays exists at his/her house.

otherwise, I see nothing in your Voip test that raises a red flag.
