I have had nothing but problems with Vonage. Call static, dropped calls no dial tone.

Here is my setup.

Dlink- 524 for my laptop and wireless print server connected to the "Green" port on the V-portal
Vonage V-portal connected to my modem

Here are some of my issues: I changed the bandwidth saver from "High" to "Highest" after Road Runner cam in and installed their own coax line into my house. I thought that might fix the echo, static on the line but it did not. I then changed the bandwidth saver back to "High". I don't know if this is a QOS problem and am not sure how to fix this.

I have been on both my cordless and corded phones and have had dropped calls. I have used the "Home Wiring" guide and disconnected the wiring from my old phone line maybe that could be the problem?

Since you have the V-portal first, it should take care of the QOS. Post the technical details listed in the sticky at the top of the forum. If you haven't, I would stop using Vonage with your home wiring for some time and see if that improves anything. Plug a phone directly into the V-portal.

I will try that. Another thought I had. I used to have DSL service and wondering if it might be helpful to hook up the DSL filters before I unhooking my phones from the in house wiring. Im not sure if it would do anything or not just thought Id check.

I did not have a chance to try hooking a phone directly to the vportal. But at about 7:00pm CST I got a (I am not sure exactly what it told me) Not enough network resources to use your Vonage line or something like that. I have gotten this before. I am not sure why this happens I have 2.0 down and 384 up.

You should run the speed test and post the results. Along with all the information that is requested in the sticky message(the second message down from the top of this forum). It's a little hard to help you with troubleshooting without some of those details. Your last post would indicate to me that you are having a problem with your ISP or modem. Keep in mind a couple of things. First, a connection that seems great for browsing and email etc. can be horrible for Voip. Second, almost always problems like you are describing are not the fault of Vonage. They are problems with an ISP or the user's network equipment or setup.

To me, it doesn't seem likely that your home wiring is causing the issues if your device is telling you there is something wrong with your internet connection. Although, it still wouldn't hurt to try with a phone plugged directly into the device.

I was on the phone with a cust service tech. Mike. We where on the phone for a while and we reset up the account, took my vportal out of my USB moved the phone in the home wiring to phone port 2. Made some calls and things seem ok. The device rebooted by itself twice when on the phone but seem stable for now anyway. If I call back and the device is still restarting support will issue me an RMA. So we will see what happens in the next few days.

Mike the cust service tech told me that the upload/download speeds are good for Vonage

Yes they are, but when using Voip they are also the least important measurements of the quality of your connection. In fact 90kbps in both directions is all Vonage requires so just about any broadband connection(except satellite) will work in theory. You need to be worried about packet loss, max pause times, jitter and round trip times. All things that the speed test tests for you. I hope it keeps working for you after Mr. Mike helped you and it could be a bad device like he mentioned. If not, I would suggest that you take some of the advice that has been offered in previous posts. Also, I didn't follow your USB explanation in your last post. I don't know what USB has to do with anything related to Vonage.

I meant UPS from my last post. I called again last night and the Tech I spoke with did a firmware update on my device and was ok all last night and again at 5:30am CST. So far so good. And I also got at credit on my account so they are trying to keep me as a customer. Well see how it goes over the weekend
