PostPosted: Sun Aug 10, 2008 3:07 pm    Post subject: VDV21 won't work behind router. Reply with quote Back to top

Installed the VDV21 yesterday, in between modem and router it works, but my connection drops from 8mb to 512k according to Vonage speed tests.

I'm trying to get it hooked up behind my BEFW11S4 but it's a no go so far.

Running WAN side of VDV21 DHCP gets nothing, will not pull IP from router. Setting to static of 10.0.0.110 (everything behind router is 10.0.0.x) does nothing either.
All I get is ErrorCode 001 from the VDV21.

Any help is appreciated.

a couple of things.

1. have you enabled DHCP on your BEF router (p. 12 in your user's guide).

2. you write:

Quote:
Setting to static of 10.0.0.110 (everything behind router is 10.0.0.x) does nothing either.

But from p. 13 of your user's guide, it states that it's ip address is 192.168.1.1 How is it 10.0.0.110?

anyway, I would recommend that you turn on DHCP on your BEF router if you have not already done so and connect an ethernet wire from port 1 of BEF to your Vonage device's "internet" or WAN port. Make sure your Vonage device is set to obtain ip address automatically.

post back if this does not help.

Zombie069, we should also pursue why your original setup didn't work better than it did. We haven't had a lot of reports on the capacity of the V-portal, but it should certainly be able to pass traffic on at better than 512K. What happens if you eliminate the router and plug your computer directly into the VDV21?

Yes it's enabled. 7 pc's pull IP's just fine. Range starts at x.x.x.100

I don't run 192.x.x.x scheme. I set my router up as 10.0.0.1 and all connected devices either pull DHCP from router pool of .100-.150, or are assigned 10.0.0.x IP's.

To clarify, BEFW11S4 is 10.0.0.1, I tried setting Vonage device to 10.0.0.110 as I would any other PC I connect to my router and got nothing, all the while BEFW11S4 was (is still) running DHCP.
Currently it's hooked to port 3 on the BEF so I'll try port 1 but I see little hope in that making any difference.

Computer was plugged directly into the VDV21.

I plugged the VDV21 into port 1 of the BEFW and it started working instantly. Very Happy I guess it didn't like port 3.. Eek

Thanks for the help in fixing this.

Further investigation reveals port 3 on BEF is bad. Dish won't connect to it either. Lights just blink at about 1per sec when anything is plugged into it.
