Just recently I've started to have some rather annoying issues. I'm using an RCA DCM325 modem via Comcast with a Linksys RT31P2 router for Vonage.

So, my phone and internet will work for a few hours, and then *poof*, the phone light goes off on my router and I cannot get on the internet from my computer. All 4 lights are still on from RCA modem, though. I need to reset the whole enchilada through proper sequencing to get it back running again, only to have it operate for 4 or 5 hours and then fail again.

Any ideas what is causing this?? It used to happen sporadically, now it's multiple times a day??

First, what happens if you power cycle the RT31P2? Is connectivity retained?

Second, when you're in the problem state, can you access the setup page of the RT31P2? Also which lights (if any) are lit on the RT31P2?

Hi, thanks for responding!!!

No, cycling power just on the Linksys router does *not* get my phone / internet back. Cycling power *just* on my RCA modem does, however. But if I take the Linksys router out of my hardware setup for a few days, I stay connected completely and consistently, which makes me think it's a router problem.

When I lose phone / internet, the lights on the router that stay on are power and internet, but the phone light turns off. When I reset power to the modem (leaving off for a few minutes), the phone light will blink a few times and then come back on.

I actually haven't tried to access the router setup page during an outage (which has happened 5 times today...argh).

what you describe rossipsu1 is not normal. it doen't necessarily mean that the router is bad however.

have you contacted your isp to ask if they are having any issues?

Everytime I've had to restart my Vonage device so far, it has been an issue between the ISP and me and not Vonage.

For example, when the ISP, charter in my case, is working on the line, it can give me intermittent signals which then takes my Vonage device offline. Rebooting can help when I reboot both Vonage and my cable modem but sometimes, it will not restore the connection.

One time, I did have leasing issues with my ISP and my primary router which resulted in losing Vonage connectivity when the lease runs out since it won't renew the ip address.

So there could be many factors involved here.
