I have been thinking of going to a voip network to get rid off the tradional phoneline.
I am using virginmedia 20meg broadband connection and was wondering is vonage worth getting in the UK as there is fair usage policy of only 2000 mins per month and the company doesn't accept mestro cards anymore and in deep financial difficulties.
I was also looking at skype which is £2.24 a month or £22.50 for the year for 10000 mins of skypeout calls to anyline in the UK 01,02 numbers. You also get a skypin number and skype to go number.
also what is vonage like using virginmedia broadband. |

I'm using Vonage on Virgin Media (previously NTL) cable - no complaints. |

I have had vonage since it began in the UK back in January 2005.(I use o2 ADSL which is great) Since then I have had little or no trouble. Talking of Virgin Media, my parents were with their predecessor 'Telewest' and they also had Vonage, their service was great until Virgin Media took over and it all turned to sh*t!
I think they heavily throttle their internet service by de prioritising time sensitive traffic, such as VOIP (Which is what Vonage use). Therefore the Vonage service becomes unreliable. I think its a ploy to make you take virgin media's mediocre telephone service, which may I add STILL lacks services such as caller ID in certain ex-ntl franchises!
I wouldn' worry about Vonage being in debt, because I assure you that this happens with all major comms providers (I worked for ntl when they went into chapter 11....and came out at the other end). The same goes for BT, they have major debts but just don't talk about it.
So there ya go, all in all I think its a good service, but thats just matter of opinion, not fact. |
