Hello, Very happy with our Vonage of 4 years, however, in March of this year we ordered from Vonage a new phone adapter with wireless router called: MOTOROLA VT2542. Since March I have had to call at least 4 times and speak to reps(lengthy process) and go through the process of resetting the SECURE SETTINGS i.e. password settings for Secure Wireless. My question to them was why is this happening when either a power failure or phone line has to be reset. They explain the Motorolo adapter VT2542 does not have a memory chip in it so looses my new password protected wireless settings when they have found an answer to this problem they will email all of those who are using this wireless adapter. Advice needed why would they sell this Wireless Adapter which cant hold settings in the first place. To reset secure settings is easy once you know how but others in the house do not know how to perform this task. Has anyone else had this problem with the MOTOROLA VT2542 and how did you fix it. DO NOT expect a fix from Vonage in regards to the issue you are currently experiencing. If you do a google search on this forum for the VT2542, you will find several topics on this very issue, here is one of many: http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic20155.html Vonage is well aware of this issue with the VT2542 and your only true fix for this issue is to have Vonage replace your defective device, that's what I did. I'm currenly using the V-Portal and I'm very happy with this device. The V-Portal does not provide a wireless signal, it is a wired router. So if you need a wireless router, you will have to purchase a separate wireless router to go with your V-Portal. Darrell: Thank you very much for help and advice, I have now found many articles and read them all. Now my question is to Vonage why did they sell this MOTOROLA VT2542 to us in March 08 knowing it had a firmware problem and is defective!!!!!!!!! and drops the phone line(green light) then when reset drops all the secure wireless settings. They knew they had a problem with this wireless phone adapter long before March 2008 so why continue to sell them, this cost us $179.18-rebate, why is this still being sold to customers, oh boy we are so mad, we have no alternative but to order another wireless phone adapter, now our friends in NJ are using one from Vonage which has a memory chip in it and never looses it's settings. I think they should replace the defective one with no charge to us or mailing costs but I think thats wishful thinking on my part. Thanks again, Pauline

Hello; I called Vonage today and they cannot replace this defective device - Motorola V7T2542 as they do not sell them any more, infact they are not selling any wireless routers the rep said. I was speaking to a rep in Ontario and told him our problem. Today, we had a one minute power failure and the router lost all secure settings. He gave me a couple of options to have it replaced with a v-portal NON WIRELESS, and to go out and purchase a wireless router, but that isn't the point they should replace our phone adapter and wireless router with another one which holds it's settings as they knew of the firmware problem long before we purchased this unit in March. We are not happy about this but will just have to keep resetting the thing I guess. Thanks for your help. Pauline

Pauline, if Vonage offered to replace the VT2542 with the V-Portal you should have taken it. Vonage no longer offers a wireless adapter option. I use the V-Portal behind my wireless router and I'm very satisfied with this configuration, I think you would be too.

I agree with Darrell, you should have taken the offer of a new adapter since there is no way that Vonage can offer a wireless adapter. I bought a wireless router/adapter last year really cheap but they are no longer available.

You can get a cheap wireless router at Future Shop and Staples, try and call back and see if they can offer that to you again.
