I have had Vonage for 3 years and have had no major problems until now. I can't receive calls from anyone not using Vonage. (onlyh Vonage phone numbers can get through). If you dont have Vonage and call me you get a Message "the number youve reached has been disconnected or is no longer in service". However I can call out on tht line to anyone, regardless of their provider. I also have a second phone line form Vonage that is not having any problems. It is limited to my maine number that everyone has. (the other line is a business phone) Customer service has been suposedly working on this for almost a week. Any ideas on what might be the issue.

I would "GUESS" the problem lies with the local exchange carrier (LEC, the phone company) who moves the incoming call to the CLEC (Vonages partner, the Competitive Local Exchange Carrier), who in turn moves it to Vonage via the internet.

How would I know who the CLEC is? Could I contact them directly to try to figure this out?

All of this would need to be done by Vonage. The phone company will not talk to you as the number (owned by the Phone Comapny) is ported to Vonage.

Anyway, I am just guessing here, so the problem may be on Vonages end, but I am assuming the recording is generated at the phone company.

I would just stay on Vonage about this. Vonage MAY be waiting to hear back from the phone company, etc.

I have this same problem. I cannot receive calls from outside the Vonage network. When dialing my Vonage number from another number I get: "you have reached a number that has been disconnected or no longer in service". The last call that I received was 7/30/08 1:45pm (nearly 24 hours ago).

- My account is "active".
- No billing problems.
- I get dial tone and can dial out.
- Vonage numbers can call my Vonage number.
- The tech can see my Vonage box and it is working properly
- I can log into my Vonage account view my account and features.
- I have had this Vonage account for 4 years.

The tech suspected slamming, because it seems like an outside issue. The tech finally created at ticket and escalated the problem to an engineer. I am in the 574 area code but that probably doesn't matter...
Anyone else with these problems?

Thanks.
-Ben

Everything that you mentiond is the exact thing for me. Except my last call received form outside Vonage was on the 21 of July. I am in 207 area code. The tech did not mention slamming specifically but he did ask if I authorized any transfer. Which indicted to me he thought that might be the issue.

This morning I emailed corporate my issue. i told them that even thought this is my home phone I also use it for a business, and I am losing business. I told them that the income I generate from my business pays my mortgage and heating oil. With no income...I can't pay those things. anyway, I got a phone call form Corporate and they are now working on it and will get back to me in about 3o miins at least that is wha tthey told me. I hope it gets resoved soon.

BTW, most if not all phone companies provide a servce that freezes your long distance and phone providers, that is, no one can SLAM you without you signing off on it first. I checked and my local phone comapny also has this service, but I am hesitant to implement it (sleeping dogs lie) or even wonder if I can as a Vonage customer or if tis would need to be done via Vonage.

Their web site says:

"Protect your local phone service...and the decisions you've made regarding your local and long distance calling services.

Did you know that another company could attempt to switch your local phone service from Cincinnati Bell to their service - WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT, AT ANY TIME? Safeguard your savings and the great service you receive from Cincinnati Bell and put a Local Service Freeze on your phone today!"
