Hello everyone,

This is wierd and I have wrote Vonage about it. I have not gotten a response back yet.

Since my January, 2008 statement, I have noticed a $0.05 "State null" fee on my bill, per line. Has anyone else seen this?

I have recently emailed Vonage about this and got the following response. Since it was escalated, I am led to believe that they have no idea what the charges are.


Dear Jake,

I understand that you are seeing a "State null" fee on your Vonage statements.


I have escalated this issue to our Management Team for further review. Once I have received an update in regards to this issue, I will update you via e-mail. We appreciate your time and patience concerning this matter.

If you have any questions, your Vonage team is available to assist you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Contact us whenever and however it suits you!

I wouldn't be concerned about the 10 cent fee, what is up with all the other fees your State is charging you? 2 fees for 911, here in Canada we only pay 2 taxes on our Vonage bill.

Robsco, don't you love it!

In the US, we get to pay a Univesal Service fee so the folks that cannot afford phones and internet have access.

The state 911 fee is on top of the federal 911 fee, what is good for the Fed's must be good for the state Rolling Eyes

Lastly the regulatory recovery fee covers other fees that are levied by the State and Fed's as a pass on to the customer.

What they can't get from you at the front door (i.e. via income taxes, etc) , they come around back and pick your pocket!

I still have not heard back from Vonage regarding this issue. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? How can I get this issue addressed?

jfitzpa503......what state is your billing address in? Some states have imposed additional taxes which Vonage and anyone else offering phone service in that state must pay.

jfitzpa503.......I have discovered this is an issue with a missing descriptor in the billing database. What this does is provide a name to the tax that is being applied. Over the past year or so, all kinds of taxes have been imposed from State level all the way down to the local township you live in. The taxes are based upon your registered 911 address.

So in your case, the tax is legitimate but the name for the tax is missing in the descriptor for your account. Therefore the word NULL is populated since no value is found in query. If you can PM me something I can identify your account by, I can have this value updated to display the correct tax name.

Thanks a Lot "CK"..tha's EXACTLY what I was looking for. Those fees etc are still cheaper than those added by QWEST etc and LD is included. NEXT, I have to resolve the (apparent) fact that Vonage charges a $ 40.00 cancellation fee if you cancel in less than a year. We are Winter visitors to AZ (5 months) and that would be the length of time I'd use the service..but 5 months EVERY year..We'll see if that can be resolved
