hi
i am having problem wiht my local net provider
at times the speed is high enough to use the Vonage and at times speed is so low that i find difficutly in hearing to other person on the line
my query is
1.whether i can use two different internet connections on the same computer. one connection for only Vonage and other conenction for surfing and other net uses

2. my second query is if suppose there is virus in my computer. will it affect my Vonage devise also?
as suggested the inernet wire from outside first goes into my router and then from there anotehr wire goes to my computer

Since you want to use one connection exclusively for Vonage, the more straighforward approach is to eliminate the computer completely on that connection. Vonage doesn't need the computer; just plug the Vonage device into the internet feed and go. Of course, you'll be paying for an internet connection strictly for use with Vonage. I doubt that it would be cost effective. Perhaps an upgrade to one connection would be better.

I doubt that a virus in your computer would directly affect Vonage, since the Vonage device communicates directly with the Vonage server through the router. However, if the virus causes your computer to use a lot of bandwidth communicating with the internet, that would affect Vonage indirectly.

1. my query is if i take an internet connection with limited download then how much mb is used if the router is kept on full time.
and how much mb is used while using the phone?

2. problem in voice quailty --- will it be because of of my internet speed or there can be any problem with my router also?

If you're using the connection just for Vonage, then you won't use much bandwidth when the phone is not in use. You'll use some because the Vonage device "calls home" periodically. You'll use about 90 kHz bandwidth when the phone is active. That's roughly 90000 bps, or 11000 Bytes per second.

Many things can cause this, including both the factors that you mention. A good start in troubleshooting is to run the forum Voip speed test, both with the computer plugged directly into your modem and with it working through the router.
