PostPosted: Wed Jul 23, 2008 5:50 pm    Post subject: V-Portal and FTP compatibility Reply with quote Back to top

7. Issue: Prior to this past week I had been using an RPT standard router from Vonage. The router ended up dying and Vonage sent me a new V-Portal router. The phone and voice is working fine. The internet connection is fine.

The problem is that for certain FTP sites I cannot get sites to List. The directory times out. No matter what settings I set on the FTP client it will not list. I am using the latest Filezilla client.

Now if I bypass the V-Portal and connect directly to my cable modem I can see the FTP sites without an issue. So the V-Portal is definitely blocking access to the FTP folders.

The only difference I can see is that with my old router the IP address was 192.168.15.1 and now it is 192.168.15.1.

Any thoughts or help is greatly appreciated.

IP address was 192.168.15.1 and now it is 192.168.15.1.
They seem identical but the dot after 1.Is that your typing error or is that the IP?.If it is the IP then i would suggest there is a syntax error in the device software.Try a default back to factory setting

I have the same problem! Lightning fried my old RT31P2 last Monday and I replaced it with a V-port from Best Buy. Works great except I can't seem to connect via FTP to several of my web sites! Pull the V-port out of the circuit and FTP works to all. I have 13 web sites.. all at the same host.

Try using passive instead of active FTP on your client.

i have tried that already. it is definitely something with the v-portal that is screwing things up.

i think i may have to try something like this:

i was just hoping someone had the same experience and then knew how to fix it.

Vonage seems to know about the problem. I was just reviewing their forum at https://forums.vonage.com/showthread.php?t=1074 Hopefully they will come up with a "fix" that they can push out.

I can use FTP if I change my configuration to [cable modem] > [Linksys router] >[V-Portal] but then QOS does not work. That's when I need QOS when I'm uploading a large set of files or database to one of my web sites and the phone rings!

Bummer
