Im very new to all of this so i might get some bad imputs because i dont know everything about routers an my Vonage so please help and bare with me...Heres my Problem i have my cable modem connected to my wireless router then 2 my Vonage modem. Every few hrs i will loose connection an have 2 reboot everything for it 2 work again my internet fails alot of times.. Could someone help? If you need more ifon about the routers an modem i would give it 2 u i just dont know how 2 find the models and all of that.

We would be glad to help you solve this issue. In order to do so, we do need more information.

1. In order to find you model # and company who made your router etc, look at the bottom of the cable modem, your wireless router, and your Vonage device. They should tell you who makes it, say Motorola for your modem or Linksys for your router etc.

2. I suspect that you have an issue with lease times or something to that effect. Since your Vonage device is after the wireless router, the wireless router is acting like a command center of sorts. It hands out addresses known and ip addresses to everything that is connected to it (both wired and wireless). So since your Vonage is connected to your wireless router, it is getting an ip address from your wireless router but this is usually not a permanent one.

Anyway, one simple way to eliminate your wireless router as the troublesome point is by removing that from your network temporarily and connecting your modem directly to your Vonage device and see if that works.

If this works for days on end, then we know that it is configuration issue between the Vonage device and the wireless router or more likely it is probably a simple solution.

So go ahead and remove the wireless router and connect your Vonage device right to your modem and see if that works. Before you do that, make sure that your modem and Vonage device are off for at least 5 mins before you power them on modem first and wait until all the lights are solid and then power on your Vonage device.

Please post back the details of how your devices are connected and what type they are etc. And let us know if it works with the Vonage device connected right to the modem.

Thanks so much for replying . Last night i did disconnect the wirelsss router an i did notice i had no hangup and my sending signal on my modem was constantly blinking not stalling like it was with the router. A i look at it right now Its not even blinking at all Sad But im onle does that mean anything>

If your computer is not surfing or downloading anything from the internet, the internet light on your modem shouldn't be blinking or should be do very infrequently. that is normal.

see how this goes for a couple of days. if you have a good solid connection on your Vonage line, then we need to tweak your setup later.

ok i will keep it disconnected for a few days an reply back thnks Smile i just wanted 2 find out the proablem because we use a laptop in the house and no one wouldbe able 2 use that but i guess its worth it lol thnks again..

this is only for the sake of testing it. this helps us isolate the configuration problem. once we know that we have to tweak the wireless router, you should be able to get it back to normal so that you can use your laptop again. So until then, give it just a couple more days.

I´m sorry but is the Vonage device connected to a surge protector? If it is , in that case try to disconnected. Because the Vonage device have that kind of issue with surge protectors.

OK IT WAS LONGER THAN FEW DAYS AN I HAD NO HANGUPS AT ALL WORKED FINE ACTUALLY.. I DONT HAVE A SURGE PROTECTOR SO I GUESS I DO HAVE 2 CONFIGURE SOMETHING DIFFERENT WITH THE ROUTER, HOW WOULD I GO ABOUT THAT?

I have mine set up
cable modem->vonage device->wireless router and have no problems with that setup.
How old is your wireless router?
Sounds like you may be due for a new one.

It appears that your router does not have QoS capabilities. QoS stands for Quality of Service and it's a feature found on some routers that allows you to give priority to the Vonage device over everything else. Since your Belkin does not appear to have this feature, I believe you have model # F5D7230-4 since I was unable to find model # F5D7239-4 as you posted. The model # F5D7230-4 does not have QoS capabilities. So you would have to do what kdf55 has suggested as follows:

This should allow your Vonage device to control the traffic through it.

So keep the modem and the VDV21-VD connected as it is and connect an ethernet cable from the VDV21-VD port 1 to the Belkin wireless router green "Modem" port. This should get your wireless router to work as well.

With this setup, you should be able to connect to the internet wirelessly on your laptop as well.

Please let us know if this helps.
