I signed up with Vonage on June 30 and initiated the process to port my Verizon number over. In the meantime I was assigned a temporary Vonage number.
Yesterday (July 14) morning my Verizon line went dark, so I assumed calls to that number would now come through my Vonage line.
Instead, calls to that number are going into my Verizon voice mail system, which I can only access through a local access number.
The only way to call my Vonage line is by using the "temporary" number.
Interestingly, when calling out on the Vonage line, the receiving phone's CID shows the ported Verizon line.
Do I just need to allow a few more days to "flush-out" the system, or should I be concerned.
An email to Vonage tech support told me they couldn't do anything for me unless I have an active Verizon number...so much for tech support |

I just ported my home Verizon number to Vonage. It completed about a week ago. It took about 10 days. I got an email when the change took place and everything worked fine. My home number calls got switched over to Vonage as soon as I got the email from Vonage that everything was transferred. As soon as you request the number be ported, your outgoing phone calls should be the same as your home phone number. It is only incoming calls that will use your virtual number until the transfer is completed.
I'd call Vonage customer service because it seems like something didn't transfer right. |

I haven't gotten any email from Vonage, so perhaps the porting isn't completed yet? |

If you look on the web site at your Vonage account, there should be a section regarding the status of your number port - it's labeled "Existing Phone Number Transfer Status". If you go to that page, it should show the date your number is scheduled to be transferred.
Once the status reads "Carrier Approved Transfer" it's a done deal. As milhans said, you will get an email from Vonage that the transfer is complete. Mine took 7 days to complete, I am located in the Boston area. |

I can be something of a dunce, and in this case, I am. SO I disconnected my phone from the landline and plugged it into the Vportal. SO, when I called my landline, there was no phone connected and it went - eventually - into the Verizon voicemail. DUH!
Let that be a lesson to all of you! |
