I contacted Vonage and i was informed that the router is blocking the connection... I'm not real sure... I'm not very computer smart.. I thought about purchasing another router, but I dont want to have the sane issues. |
Since this is an older router, I would definitely upgrade the firmware on it. go to http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1166859876500&packedargs=sku%3DBEFSR41&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=7650076500B01&displaypage=download
Be sure to select the correct version of your router and follow the instructions to install. (version 1.0, 2.0 etc)
Then you may need to open some ports (though if your wireless is connect through the same router, I would dobut this is the issue).
FYI the ports that the V-phone uses is TCP 5061 and ports 10000-20000 UDP.
BTW, I think when you upgrade your firmware, the router goes to default settings such as IP and password. You will need to change the password again, though if you have no other custom settings should not be a problem.
The original BEFSR41 router could not handle the higher speed internet, capping it to about 6mps download. Really old BEFSR41 V1 or V2's have only a 10Mbps/half-duplex WAN port and can't handle more than 5 or 6Mbps and and can not be fixed by a firmware upgrade. I retired mine a couble of months ago when I upgraded to faster internet. |

You would make the entries under port forwarding. However, to do so you would need to set a static IP address for your PC. Not a very clean solution.
Like I said, if the wireless is connected to the router and it works, then the router is most likely NOT blocking the ports.
To test if it is the router is blocking the ports you need, find the IP address of the PC , then go to the DMZ tab in the router and enter that IP. This allos a straight through path to your PC from the internet, and is NOT recommended for long term use, as it exposes all of the ports of your PC to the internet. |

there are 2 ways to find your ip address.
#1: go to the start menu and choose run. A little window will open up. type in cmd and hit enter now a dos window will open up and type in ipconfig /all
this should give you the ip address of your ethernet card. it should be something like 192.168.1.1xx
enter in this ip address.
#2: get on the web configuration page for your router and select the status tab. there should be a local network link. then select the DHCP Client Table button. This should tell you the ip address of your computer. |
