Last October, an Ohio county common pleas court found sales tax imposed on satellite television discriminatory and unconstitutional.
Recently, House Bill 599 was introduced, the "Ohio Video Tax Fairness Act," would drop sales tax on satellite TV services for Ohio's estimated 980,000 satellite TV customers.
Seems what can be argued for Satellite not charging sales tax could also be argued for Vonage. |

the only way that this can be considered fair is if all the cable customers also be exempt from taxes on their cable tv bill. if not, then there is nothing fair about this.
in my case, charter charges for cable tv and taxes it unlike their high speed internet service which is untaxed. go figure.
btw, i doubt this is applicable to vonage since vonage is essentially now considered a telco. |

I think the concept may be a presence in the state. Since satellite TV is kind of virtual, no presence in the state, why should they be taxed. I would thing Vonage is the same, although I also believe that telcos were included specifically as a taxable entity, at least in Ohio. Vonage would argue they are not a telco, mostly to try and avoid regulation. |

Only shaky if you are pro tax . . . consider that an external organization or company (to your state) receives no services or representation from that state. |

Further, consider the Gov't does absolutely NOTHING to provide the service/goods assumes absolutely NO risk, yet there they are with there with their hand out saying "make damn sure I get my share". I say "Share of what? What exactly is it I am paying you for again? The privilege to purchase a service you did NOTHING to provide me?" |
