I am seriously considering ditching my phone service for Vonage, but I have a few concerns. One of them is compatibility with Xbox Live. Does Vonage interfere with online gaming, or vice versa? Last time I checked, my upload speeds were around 370kbps. Any info is appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy |

I'm not sure how it could effect Xbox Live. It doesn't effect any of your broadband in any way. I've used both for about a year. I'm not sure I've played Halo 2 while on the phone yet but it shouldn't be a problem as the max data on the two combined is far less than your broadband. |

Vonage does NOT work well with XBOX live, especially Halo 2. Whenver I play Halo 2 with Vonage hooked up it will drop me about every 15 minutes or so. When I disconnect my Vonage then I NEVER get dropped. It's like Vonage sends a hickup through the connection every 15 minutes. Now this sounds like an isolated incedent, but my friend who has Vonage and Halo 2 had the exact same problem. He unhooked his Vonage and the problem went away. I hope Vonage fixes this problem soon! |

I'd be surprised if it was a Vonage problem. Mainly because it works fine at my place. In fact Xbox Live works with several games without a problem, including Halo2. |

What kind of upload speeds do you get with your ISP? I just hooked up my vonage this evening, and I will be testing with xbox soon. |

I get the same problem of connection drop if connecting this way: cable modem->phone modem->D-Link router->Xbox. Without the phone modem in the way, no connection drop was observed. I try to hook up the phone modem to the router but couldn't find the way yet. The phone modem couldn't obtain an IP address for some reasons. |

By any chance for those who ecounter problem with connection drop, what type of cable modem do you have? I have the Panasonic PCX1100 which might be the issue (seeing discussions in other threads regarding about this modem). |

it's not so much the modem as it is the service provider. the modem has an issue yes, but it is correctable by the isp. evidently, comcast (or at least some comcast markets) have not made the fix. |

Does this mean, am I stuck? I have Comcast but have no other choice for service provider in my area. So it wouldn't make any difference if I switch the cable modem? Thanks, John. |
