Motorola & Optimum Online. I opened port 3074 on my Belkin router, but when I tried to open 88, it said that it's being used for wireless. I'm wondering if that's the problem.

I was doing some testing today. I played Halo 2 and Ghost Recon 2 for about an hour and a half with my Vonage line dialed to my cell the whole time. No problems.

Well I am glad I found this Forum but I am not sure if I am having the same issues or not. We have 4 Pc's and 3 Xbox's wires up through a Linksys RT31P2 Voip router and a 8 port Linksys switch and Comcast Broadband (the new 4mb down). The Pc's run great for online game play but the Xbox's, as mentioned here many time, keep getting diconnected, not just on Halo 2 but other games as well. I have ajusted the QoS to give certain ports higher priority, I have moved the taken the Pc's off line during gameplay to see if that was an issue, but nothing worked. We are at the point now to get another modem just for the Xbox's.

I have just tested my set up and it works fine.
I have linksys modem -> linksys wrt54g -> linksys PAP2, two pc's, and my xbox

I have tried playing america's army on both pc's online at the same time as well as halo 2 on xbox live while my mother was talking on the phone just to give the thing a good test through. I didn't have any problems whatsoever, pings on aao were under 100 and voice quality was reported to be good. Didn't experience any lag or disconnects on Halo 2. I have wide open west cable 2mb down, 256kb up

Nice to know one person out of others here who can play without problems. However, I'll add myself to the list. I've known about this issue since December, but figured I'd wait awhile for others to post on the web with the same issue. I'm troubleshoot computer issues all day, and didn't want to troubleshoot this issue.

Here is my issue: Halo 2 WITH voice communicator and Vonage Motorola adapter connected, drops network connection within 15 minutes and get no dial tone on the phone. Have to reboot all.

Halo 2 WITHOUT voice communicator plugged in and Vonage Motorola adapter connected works fine, no lag, no drop in connection.

Noticed problem in December with Cox Internet. Have since moved and now on CableAmerica. Same issues.

Ping times, ISP, Make, Model of Cable Modem, Phone adapter, router are all ruled out in my opinion because I have now seen from others' postings that this issue happens regardless of all these. I have personally tried with Linksys WRT54G router, Belkin 54G router and two different cable ISPs - neither have worked.

I believe the problem lies within the voice ports. Halo 2 WILL work fine without the voice communicator plugged in - or WILL work fine if voice communicator is plugged in, but Vonage phone adapter unplugged. Both together are NOT working. That tells me there are port issues.

I will test some different scenarios and see if I can find a resolution and post. I don't believe it is Vonage nor Bungie's problem.

I used to have problems getting disconnected when i played Halo2 on live. Here's how i had my network setup originally.

Cable Modem --> SMC router ---> Xbox + Linksys Voip Router + LAN PCs

I think what happened was Xbox live was causing my SMC router to reboot (maybe some security feature for when it thinks it's being hacked into). I ended up restructuring my network in the following way:

Cable modem --> Linksys Voip Router ---> Xbox + SMC Router ---> Lan PCs

Since this setup, i have been able to play halo2 on live just fine with the voice communicator. I also used to have problems with phone calls where people would call in but I couldn't hear anything. With the new setup, this problem has disappeared.

Did you try playing Halo 2 WITH the voice communicator plugged in? If not, please try and let us know the results.

omniscientx, I think I can say I've tried it via the Vonage adapter first in the network after the cable modem as well as that's when I first started noticing it, so I started switching order of devices, but same. But, I'll try it again, (since I haven't yet in this new location that we're living) and see if that helps. I'll report some detailed info including the order of devices, port forwarding, etc. when I get some time to play around with it. I currently have 2 emails in - one to xbox live support and the other to Vonage. We'll see who responds first, and if there is any useful information. Rolling Eyes

Right now I just unplug my phone adapter when I play Halo 2 WITH my communicator plugged in. If anyone calls, it forwards to my cell phone anyway. That's how I've been able to live with this for so long without digging deeper into troubleshooting, but hasn't anyone else been irritated with this?

I am using Charter Cable with an ambit modem, the motorola adapter, and a buffalo wireless router.

Regardless of what game I'm playing I'll periodiclly have issues where I'll lose my connection and will have to reboot everything. Xbox tech support pointed me to http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/connect/charter.htm . I have also set my xbox ip address as a dmz. That has helped some. Charter has run several tests on my line and has even replaced my tap. At this point I'd have to say that there is some sort of issue. I'm going to try to configure my Vonage adapter to work behind my router again in the morning.

I have tried one fix though. Try changing your router's mac address on the wan side to your xbox's mac address. So far this has worked well.
