Last night the latest firmware was uploaded into my v-portal. Since then, every half hour (at :08 and :38 after the hour), the V-portal retrieves the profile and reconnects to the Vonage server, and I am temporarily (for just a minute) without phone service. Tech support seemed stumped and I am waiting on them to give me a call back. Anybody ever had this problem before?

Never had this problem, but almost sounds like your IP lease from your ISP is not being set correctly. ISP's provide a temporary lease to "get connected" then provide a longer lease which is then renewed starting about a 3.5 hours or so before it is set to expire.

Check the lease information on our router/vonage device and see when it is set t renew and if it coincides with the profile retrieval and reconnection.

FreddieB had a similar problem (if it is the lease) and did the following:

"I turned power off to the cable modem for 45 minutes. After rebooting everything I now have a lease of 7 days."

30 min lease times from your isp is not normal. is your v-portal connected directly to your modem?

Yes, right now it is connected directly to the modem with my Linksys wireless router behind the V-portal.

I started noticing this behavior yesterday. Every 30 minutes, the V-Portal will flash a message on the LCD "Retrieving Profile," "Connecting to Vonage Server." I checked my primary routers IP lease for the V-Potrtal and the lease is set to expire in 19 hrs and 42 mins. I believe it to be a firmware related issue with the V-Portal and not the ISP.

Well, I agree, it is not the lease, as it is beyond the 30 minute interval that you are experiencing.

As an FYI, the device will always "check in" with the Vonage servers every 30 minutes and is firmware independent. This actually holds true for all Vonage devices and is not just relevant to the V-Portal.

Then are you implying that this is a Vonage problem if it interrupts the phone calls during this "call home?"

Definate possibility. Regardless of firmware, the device will "connect home" every 30 minutes. However, since this happens on all firmwares, the latest firmware may have introduced an issue with how it send it's DHCP request or something to that effect. A good test will be to roll back the firmware and see if this happens.

When you see the message on the LCD stating the device is "retreiving profile", you still receive dial tone and are able to make a call. If you are actively on a call, this process happens in the backround and does not effect the ability to make a call.

My question is as follows:

While the device is retreving the profile, do you not receive dialtone when you pick up the phone and aren't able to make a call? Or is this something you just see and you're wondering is this will happen?
