RE: High Speed Wireless Broadband Internet Service Compatibile with Vonage?I'm experimenting with high speed wireless broadband from a company by the name of _ _ _ _ _ Wire.   It is run by Craig McCaw...the same guy who gave us MCI.  The sales reps for the company have informed me that they would be glad to give me another number so I can have Vonage-like service for $19.95/month plus high speed wireless internet service for another $29.95 a month.  Why should I sign up for another phone service when I already have the Vonage router? My question:I need to know if anyone has used has installed Vonage using a high speed broadband wireless service (1.5 mps or higher)?  If yes, was the voice quality good or do I have to have the cable guy come out here and install yet another cable in the house we're temporarily staying in?

unfortunately, it is not simply compatibility with Vonage that is the question. it is the compatibility with any Voip service. the only way to truly test this is to get the service and test it using the Voip tests at various times of day with many iterations.

of course, these wireless broadband services have speeds dependent on the # of users on the network as well.

I have not read many positive experiences with wireless services...

It would help to run the forum Voip speed test using the wireless service. That would give a good indication of whether it would work well.

How about the issue of limited data quantitiy? Both Sprint and Verizon limit wireless broadband customers to 5 GB/mo. I've been using this service for three months, and find it fast and dependable, but I'm using about 4or 4.5 G already. Will Voip significantly increase my usage? How can I estimate bandwidth reqirements (in terms of quantity, rather than speed)? BTW: I have run the Voip speed test from this site twice & get good speeds.

Thanks for any info or informed guess!

there are 8 bits to a byte. Vonage calcuates phone calls in kbps (kilobits per second). So if you have your bandwidth at the normal 90kbps, you are using 90 kilobits or 90000 bits per second.

There are 8 bits in 1 byte so 90/8 = a little over 11 so you are using roughly 11 kilo bytes per second to make a call.

So if your call lasts 100 seconds, you have used 110 KB.

If it lasts 1000 seconds, then you have used 1100KB or 1.1 MB.

So on.

Ok. Then I should be good to go. One hour of Vonage time should equal about 4.125 MB (max), and that would leave me with at least 100 hours of talk time available (assuming I 'd have @500MB of my allotted 5G to play with).

Thanks for the mental jump-start.
