My RT31P2 is getting the " Router Still Restarting " " Please Wait " message for the past 5 days. I've tried everything under the sun in terms of resetting it, TFTP firmwares, but get the " Settings are failed " when I try to revert to the default settings.
So I ordered a brand new RTP300-NA and now would like to attach it to my cable modem. However, do I risk the possibility that once I connect this new router to the internet, Vonage is going to automatically provision it and therefore LOCK it. I paid extra money just for the fact that it was an unlocked device so that I may use it with another VoIP provider if needed.
Thanks in advance..............BTW, if anyone can help me with my old RT31P2, I would be happy to send you a PayPal donation if you can resolve my problem. |

My understanding is that when you connect the RTP300-NA, it will not work on Vonage. They only work with proprietary routers that either they sell or an authorized seller sells. So therefore, when you plug in your unlocked router, my understanding is that it will not work.
So go ahead and try it, but from what i've read in the past, this does not work and the device has to have vonage's logo on it.
If you get another vonage device, you need to change the MAC address associated with your vonage acct on the vonage.com website so that they will make your new device work with your phone line.
I also do not believe that you can mess with the firmware of the rt31p2. It has to be done by vonage themselves.
All I can say is try to hard reset for over 1 min. If that doesn't work, then it is now paperweight. Keeping it pressed for a long time minimum of 1 min seems to help some in desperate situations. |

Oh no. I just wasted $50 for nothing. I had no idea I had to buy a Vonage provisioned device. |

Yeah, Vonage for whatever reason has decided as a voip company to keep the voice data private (i.e. not open to the customer). So that's why PBX systems do not work with Vonage b/c you are not given any of the information necessary to use any unlocked device out there with them. There is a work around but IMHO, not worth it.
Perhaps the store is willing to take it back and explain to them your error in buying it? |

http://192.168.15.1/Provision.html on the RTP300-NA shows:
Vonage DNS Server 1
Vonage DNS Server 2
This a brand new "NA" I purchased that hasn't even been on the internet. The web admin page only shows RTP300. No mention of the "NA" on the router itself. However, the box it came in does show the "NA" near the barcode.
Did I get a Vonage RTP300 that was "NA"ized or is there a real way to confirm that it is in fact a real NA router. |

If it is a factory sealed box (not tampered with) it is an NA = not affiliated. Where did you get it?
It does sound like it is an NA, (which is good) so it will never work with Vonage, find another provider. Or get a Vonage locked device. |

Brian,
Is there a sure way to find out if this is a real RTP300-NA or just a Vonage RTP300 whose firmware was updated to make it look like a "NA" |

Couple things.
First I don't believe there is a way to determine for sure if the device is an "NA" or not.
Second If you got it from a reputable dealer I'm sure it is an "NA". The web interface will not show RTP300 - NA only RTP300, so don't judge just by that. By the sound of it you seem to question the integrity of the dealer though. I assume you have access to the Voice Tab of the web interface?
Lastly, I can't recall off the top of my head if there is a provisioning tab, or if provisioning is in the setup area. Whatever the case, find provisioning and turn it off, or remove all the provisioning servers, and info. Then the unit can not "call home" to Vonage and get locked again.
The current FW version is 3.1.24 |

Hi Brian. I purchased it from eBay. It came inside an all white box with a Linksys sticker. Inside were just the A/C adapter and 1 ethernet cable. It definately doesn't look like a retail box with pictures/colors, etc.
The firmware was 1.00.47. I also own a PAP2-NA and right on the device where it says Model No. is says "PAP2-NA"
Maybe I'm just getting paranoid. |
