Has anybody else have a problem with choppy calls? I have comcast cable modem and get decent speeds. However, I have repeatedly had problems with people complaining I sound all "garbled", as if I'm underwater. Any ideas? Suggestions? My upload speeds are greater than the recommended 90 kbs, and I recently upped my speed through comcast to the highest speed tier to see if it helps. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!! |

My ISP is Time Warner and I am having similar problems. My speeds are also well above where they need to be. I am thinking this is an overload with Vonage. Maybe they should spend a little less on advertising and a little more on capacity. The other problem could be that all the modems/routers/adapters don't work well toghther. I have a Mototola Cable Modem with the Linksys router (phone adapter). Has anyone changed out their modem and had better luck?? I am thinking maybe a Linksys modem would work better with a Linksys router. Just a guess. |

many people have had success with changing their cable modem out. you can see this very easily if you searched the forum. here is one example in a thread started by the same person who started this one: http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic2267.html the two bottom posts speak of the cable modem issue at some length. although I have seen other modems cause problems, the toshiba PCX1100U seems to pop up the most. This is the one I use, and like bbtrumpetguy I'm having no problems, but others have not been so fortunate. |

in my case, I have Astound here in Concord,CA (outside San Fran). My occasion choppiness is likely caused by network congestion, from extended ping plotter analysis. However, my assessment would be more definitive if I could get the local Vonage server which handles my calls and I can ping the crap out of it for 7 days, 24hrs/day... Can anyone give me that IP Address? |
