Before installing vonage I would just change the mac address of my router and my IP would change, now when I do so with vonage connected my IP stays the same. If I unplug vonage and change my router's MAC address my IP changes like normal...

So how can I change my IP?

A couple of notes.

1. How is your network setup? give us the router make and model # and all devices connected to it. Also the vonage adapter make and model#

2. Why are you changing the MAC address of your router? That should not be changed at all. If you change your MAC address on your router, the ISP will issue you a new ip address b/c it thinks that a new device has connected to them and is asking for an ip address.

If you vonage device is immediately after your modem, then changing your MAC address on your old router will do nothing b/c it is sitting behind the vonage device.

Again all of my comments are based on several assumptions. I would need to know how your network is setup in order to help more specifically.

3. What is the intended purpose for changing your MAC address on your router anyway? This is not a typical configuration change for routers.

1. I have a modem, wireless router, and vonage adapter connected to my pc and a laptop in another room using the wireless. Router is netgear WPN824v2 and vonage adapter is VDV21-VD

2. I'm changing the mac address on my router so my IP changes... this doesn't work when the vonage adapter is connected.

3. My objective is to get my IP to change whenever I want it to.

I have the same ISP as you also.

I have charter internet also. I have NEVER changed the MAC address of the router so that my IP changes.
What you are asking to do, you cannot do while using Vonage.

I still do not understand what cams network setup is. I assume he is saying:
..........................................................................................
Cable Modem ---->Router| ---> Vonage Device --> PC
........................................| ---> Wireless --> PC ...............

Based on this setup, a new MAC address on the router should change his IP.

My network setup is different, as I have my Vonage device right after the Cable Modem and when I change the MAC address on the Vonage device, the IP Changes.

Then what I need to do is change the MAC address on the vonage device, correct? How would I do that?

It sounds like what you want to do is "spoof" a MAC address onto the V-Portal...is that correct? To spoof a MAC address onto the V-Portal: Login to your V-Portal at it's IP address. Click on the Advanced Setup tab/Ethernet Options. Enter the MAC address of the device that is registered with your ISP in the Spoofed MAC Address field.

...well guys...the most common reason (I know of) for changing your external IP is to fool connections that rely on IP logging like rapidshare etc.

What could be another reason to do that?
Your ISP usually only needs to know the MAC address of your modem and does not care what is happening behind that, since that address verifies your account.

Maybe I am mistaken and could learn something here?

Please shine some light on a dark place!
