Your ISP usually only needs to know the MAC address of your modem and does not care what is happening behind that, since that address verifies your account.

Maybe I am mistaken and could learn something here?

I changed my MAC address just for the heck of it after reading this thread http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic22600.html+mac+address

The IP change was a side effect for me.
