Hi,

My Vonage service started on the 18th and on that very day when my account was activated my answering machine started cutting-off callers without allowing them to leave a message. It worked flawlessly prior to this. Any ideas on what to try?

Check yur Vonage voice mail to see if it is activated. It may be intercepting the call.

Thanks but nah, it's off along with all the other features. It's got to do with Vonage and Uniden.

Anyone use a DECT 6.0 answering machine that works with Vonage?
Or have any ideas on settings with the Uniden?

Oh this is really interesting. I also purchased a new Uniden phone 6.0 last week and our answer machine is unusable. A lot of the time the caller cannot get past the greeting message before it starts buzzing or making static noises, and if we do get a message, it is full of static. I tried turning off the Vonage voicemail, but that made no difference.

What's weird is that I used to be able to screen callers and now all I hear the machine playing the greeting. It then appears that as soon as the greeting is completed the call is immediately dropped. I've tried making little adjustments to the Vonage VM-turining it on with 50 seconds or completely off, but the same thing happens everytime regardless of VM settings. Also call forwarding is off. All other calls work fine, meaning that if I pick up the call before the answering machine gets it, the call is not dropped. If the machine gets it then it gets dropped
Here is my setup:
Comcast Cable
Motorola Surfboard SB5100 Cable Modem
Netgear Wireless Router WGR614V2
Vonage VDV21-VD
whole house wiring

From your description, it seems like the answering machine might be sensing that the remote side has hung up as soon as it finishes playing the greeting. Lots of things could cause this. Can you try to connect the answering machine directly to your VDV21 device? In other words, don't use your house wiring. Then see if there is a difference.

Thanks for the reply.

I connected the answering machine directly into the VDV21-VD and the same result happened.

The same thing is happening to me. I have had Vonage for a couple of years now and have been using the Uniden DECT 1080-3 the whole time. In fact, I purchased the phone system to use with Vonage. I have never experienced any problems with the answering machine. We had an electrical storm last week that fried our Linksys Voip router. We purchased a new router. I do not know who the manufacturer is but it has Vonage written on the top of the router and is model # is VDV21-VD. I contacted Vonage last week twice and we tried some trouble shooting steps and "tweaked" the settings. Long story short, the answering machine still drops the incoming caller after the outgoing message is played and Vonage says it's a Uniden problem. I just spoke with Uniden and a manager is supposed to call me back today to let me know if he is aware of any compatibility issues.

catamount and Robguy,

It sounds like a compatibility issue b/w the Uniden DECT answering machine system and the VDV21-VD adapter. Both of you have it and both of you are having answering machine issues.

catamount's story of it working fine in years past with a different Vonage adapter makes it even more probable that it is an compatibility issue.

I wonder if there is some kind of error checking in the DECT or some kind of signal it emits to check to see if there is someone on the line trying to leave a message.
