I'm ready to pull the plug on my Verizon land line, but have a silly question. Has anyone had problems getting their phone provider to provide the forwarding number option? I've only been with Verizon for 3 months (new house), and when I call to cancel, I'm assuming they'll want to know why I'm cancelling. Wondering if I tell them I've switched to Vonage if they'd be reluctant to provide the forwarding number message, or are they required to do that. I suppose I could always come up with some sort of lie that might make them agreeable to do it, but if I don't need to, I won't. Thanks |

You do have the option of getting your current phone number mapped over to your Vonage account. The process takes a while, but it's more convenient for everyone who calls you. While you're waiting for the transfer to take place, Vonage will assign you a temporary phone number. |

Not an option in my exchange. They do have numbers in my area code (317), but not the suburb I live in. That was the first thing I checked on when looking at Vonage. Doesn't really bother me that I can't keep the same number since I haven't had this one that long, but do want to be sure that people that call that number over the next couple of months at least get the recording for the new number. |

I can't speak for Verizon, but MCI gave me NO problems at all...I didn't even ask for the forwarding number option, the rep brought it up to me. I told them I was cancelling because I went with a Voip Broadband telephone service. They seemed not to be taken by surprise (Wonder why...look at the price differences!!). |
