Post subject: Comcast broadband and Vonage issues
I read the postings (from last year) about issues with
Vonage
dropping calls or poor voice quality when using comcast and remembered that I had exactly the same problems when I signed up with
Vonage
.
And I agree the
Vonage
reps were not able to diagnose or resolve the problem. My friend (a techy of sorts) walked me through the set-up etc. and then he asked me the 'critical' question - Which modem are you using for comcast? Turns out the comcast modem was an old modem that was blocking some of the voice packets or was not letting it function freely. I went to the local Compuserve store and bought a new modem and since then I have had no problems. So others can do this to try and resolve such problems. The modem I bought and am still using is a Motorola SB5120. (The old one was a 3com modem that I had when I first got comcast.) Good Luck
N.B. The modem is now 2.5 year old so I assume the newer ones are even better.
