Thought I would forward my Qwest # to my Vonage # while waiting for the number transfer to go through, but it wouldn't work. Also come to find out that i can't dial my Vonage # from my home Qwest line. I just get a fast busy signal in both cases. I can however call my vonage # from two different cell phones, so it appears to just be an issue with my home phone.
I had Qwest dsl and phone service. I cancelled the dsl, which they told me would take 3 days to go into effect, got cable broadband, and signed up for vonage all on the same day. Then I got a notice from vonage saying that my # transfer was being held up because I had DSL on the line and needed to call them with a confirmation that it had been cancelled. So I did that a couple days ago, but things obviously are not working right, at least witih my home qwest line. any clues? |

Try calling the virtual number from another non-Quest phone, such as a cell phone. If it works, there isn't anything wrong with the number but there is something wrong with the way Quest is trying to route calls to the virtual number. Quest will need to repair the problem in their network.
Report to Guest that you can't call the number from your Quest line but can call it from your cell phone. However, don't don't don't say that the number you are trying to call is a Vonage number or a virtual number, etc. Just tell them you can't call it. |

Thanks for the reply. I don't think I'll worry about it for now, as I expect (hope) my number transfer will be going through in the next few days, and then I'll be all done with Qwest anyway. Then the only question will be if other Qwest people can call me. But I'll deal with that later if I have to. |

my understanding with lnp is that once you request the lnp, the vonage acct will have your old phone # already. thus if you have the quest # dialing itself, it will not work.
i.e. if my phone # is (123) 111-2222 with Quest and I request a transfer to vonage, the new vonage device will automatically have (123) 111-2222 already as its main # but also will have a virtual # with it so that you can dial out.
If someone who has vonage dials (123) 111-2222, it will ring your vonage line not your Quest line.
However, outside of vonage, everyone else dialing (123) 111-2222 will ring your Quest phone.
Hope this helps you understand the process. |

A couple of years back I had my Verizon number forwarded to my non-virtual temporary Vonage number and processed a number port from Verizon to my Vonage phone. It worked exactly as I expected - calls to my old Verizon number rang on my Vonage phone through the port with no problems. |
