I have my Linksys RT31P2 plugged directly into my cable modem. My PC is then connected to the Linksys LAN. I have FTP and HTTP Services running on my PC, however, I am unable to acess them from the outside. I have port forwarding setup on the Linksys to point to the IP of my PC, but it will not forward. I can HTTP and FTP to the PC from within my network, but am unable to from the Internet. Nothing shows up in the logs of my applications, so the data is not getting beyond the Linksys router.
Here's the relevant part of my config: Linksys gets WAN IP via DHCP from ISP. LAN IP is set to 10.0.0.1 /24. The IP of my PC is 10.0.0.101 /24. Under the UPnP Forwarding tab on the Linksys I have the FTP and HTTP services enabled and pointed to IP (101).
Are there any known issues or firmware updates that have been known to fix this? I've searched the forums, but unable to find anything on this.
Thanks! |

You should probably set up the port forwarding on the "Port Range Forwarding" page rather than the UPnP page. In either case, make sure you checked the "enable" box. |

I'm positive the boxes are checked. I will try it in the Port Forwarding Range and see if that works. The only reason I didn't is because the UPnP already had the port and everything entered in and I was too lazy to type... |

The UPnP stuff isn't really supposed to be edited manually like that, which is why I brought it up. UPnP is supported by Windows XP, so that a program can connect to the router and request that a certain port be automatically forwarded. That sounds a bit iffy security-wise, so I usually just leave it disabled.
Anyway, under the Administration tab on the RT31P2 settings, you can enable/disable UPnP. If it had been disabled, then that would explain why the port wasn't getting forwarded on your first attempt. Using the "normal" port forwarding page on the router still sounds like your best bet. |

Hmm... using the Port Range forwarding and forwarding 21:TCP and 80:TCP to my PC did not work either. I'm at a loss here. |

OK, nevermind everyone---apparently I just pulled the biggest moron move in history!
Trying to access the WRONG IP address will cause those sort of problems, right?!
That second octet is supposed to be 223 NOT 233 on my WAN IP!!!! Grrr...I even looked at it 10 times.
Stupid, Stupid, Stupid....
Excuse me while I go break something... |

grats on solving it!
To save myself (and probably some of my furniture too) some wear and tear, what was your final solution?
thanks! chrisp |

My final solution was to 1) realize that I'm an idiot and 2) FTP to the RIGHT IP address.
I was trying to FTP to the wrong WAN IP the entire time and thought my port forwarding was not working. |
