I just got ripped off on a VT2442 on Ebay so I thought I may get one of these "new?" V portals.
Also - I want an easier setup.
Are these V portal adapters really plug and play like they say?
Any issues I should know about?
Thanks |

I don't think the verdict is in yet on the V-portal. The good news is that they've been around for awhile now, and we're not seeing a dramatic number of problems with them. There were some issues with connecting them to house wiring that may or may not have been resolved yet. I doubt that they are any more or less "plug and play" than any of the other Vonage adapters.
One thing is sure. The V-portal has only one LAN port. The VT2442 has four. |

I've been using the V-Portal for almost 3 months now and I've yet to experience any issues with the device itself. Voice and sound quality is excellent. I might add that I'm only using the V-Portal as a phone adapter and not as a wired router. The V-Portal is connected to a free ethernet port behind my primary wireless router and acting solely as a phone adapter. |

I'm really interested in knowing whether the V-portal is robust as a one port router. So far I haven't seen much from people who are using it "up front" in demanding applications. |

Yes....plug and play....very easy set-up !
Been using the V-Portal up front as a one port router....before my wired linksys network.
NO problems with phone or computers.
Only one glitch with the V-Portal....It won't trigger the voicemail light on my Vonage cordless phone system.....Was told by Vonage Tech that the V-Portal doesn't provide the signal to trip the light. ( hope they fix this glitch in the future )....But I doubt they will seeing how the V-Portal shows voicemail on the display.

How demanding is your use of the internet? Bit torrents, gaming, anything like that? |

Muitipule large files down at once....Even use the phone/internet at the same time....I have RoadRunner Business class....15MB down....2MB up.
No gaming.

Thanks. That certainly suggests that the V-portal performs its limited routing duties well. |
