One of the biggest appeal of Vonage for me is phone number portability. I currently have a business number of 6880 and a FAX number of 6882 that I wish to keep regardless of where I move. I subscribed to the Vonage business package with the idea of retaining the voice/FAX number pair.
I called the Vonage call center and was told that such a transfer of the phone number pair to the business package is not possible. I would have to have two Vonage subscriptions (which I assume meaning two Linksys routers) to retain the numbers. I already have one Linksys router for my personal Vonage account. Does this mean I will have to have a stack of Linksys's and three accounts? |

Unfortuantely, I don't know the specifics of Vonage's portability policies. However, what I do know is that there are two phone ports on the back of each Linksys RT31P2 router. This is so that two separate lines can be run from the router (e.g, your business line and the fax line). So, you would have to have at least ONE additional Linksys than what you already have--so you'd have one for your personal phone and one for your business/fax.
But maybe what Vonage is telling you is that only one number can be transferred per Vonage account?? So, maybe they're not saying physically that you have to have two accounts/routers for the voice and fax lines; but rather that each account with Vonage only allows one number portability...so you'd have to have two accounts in order to transfer two numbers??? |

Thanks Nick for your reply. Is this forum moderated by a Vonage representative that can give me the official policy?
I emailed the same question to the Vonage support mailbox and have never received a reply.
I would like to have this question brought to closure ASAP as I am paying for both my POTS line and the Vonage Voip. The idea was to save money and not to double my cost.
Thanks. |
